A letter from Jeff:
A lifelong learner, I am fortunate to have learned and continue to learn from my professional experiences, educational pursuits and most importantly, from the countless people I have been exposed to in my lifetime. I have learned from famous people (industry and educational luminaries) and ordinary people (the segment which I reside in) in a variety of settings from start-up companies to global Fortune 500 corporations.
The failures I have encountered in my experiences have taught me as much or more than the successes I have been fortunate to have realized throughout my career. I have to credit my grandfather (a successful entrepreneur in his day) for my interest in entrepreneurship and innovation. He was never afraid to fail, realizing that long-term success is dependent on experimenting and as we all know, not every experiment produces a successful outcome. I am sure that he is the basis for my attraction to innovative regions such as Silicon Valley. While my first visit there was from several thousand feet in the air (I was conducting research and development testing as a US Marine on a helicopter-based intelligence platform), I have returned to Silicon Valley over the past two decades for both professional and educational pursuits. I continue to marvel at the energy level and the creativity and innovation that seem to be so pervasive in Silicon Valley, Austin, San Diego, and other innovative regions.
My professional pursuits have taken me throughout the US and to Europe where I continue to marvel at the opportunities that are available to those who are willing to see them and pursue them with motivation, determination and an open and inquisitive mind.
